Age Friendly? Livable Community News

Last spring the Senior Activity Center was asked to take a lead role in the city’s quest to become a member of the AARP/ World Health Organization’s network of cities around the world seeking to be designated as “A Livable Community”. Sheboygan became the first city, the 3rd community, in  Wisconsin to join.

And now the real work begins! A task force has met numerous times and will be meeting with a national AARP expert on March 7th. Local leaders are on the Task Group, but more importantly, the over 50 age group is well represented.

Next step– to gather information from the  community in a variety of ways. We are looking for your support. PLEASE learn about the process as  information comes out, fill out surveys either on-line or on paper. Encourage your neighbors and friends to get engaged.

We will be delivering surveys, hosting focus groups here and at cafes. Please consider volunteering to attend and then host a focus group.

Give your name to Wendy Schmitz if interested in getting involved.

Huge congratulations go out to Kerri and Chuck on the birth of their new baby girl.

HARPER JEAN made her grand arrival on Valentine’s Day, February 14th at 5:50pm. She was 6lb 11oz, 19.5 inches.

Congratulations from all of us at SACS on your new little Valentine!

It starts here– Help Shape Sheboygan

Surveys are a drag but an important way for the city to gather your input as it develops the strategic plan.

The city wants your input, but needs it by March 11. Take the city survey online by going to www.sheboyganwi.gov or pick up a paper copy at SACS. It should take you about 8 minutes to fill it out. We will have simple chrome book computers  so that you can take the survey at SACS. Just ask us for assistance.
